EC3 Holiday Drop and Shop

Saturday, December 6th, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.--drop off your currently-enrolled or alumni child (up to age 12) at EC3 so you can do some shopping and preparing for the holidays! Several of EC3’s fabulous teachers will be on hand to provide excellent child care during those hours, and parents pay whatever they think is fair for the service. At the end of the session, we’ll divide the money evenly among the teachers, who will be grateful for the extra cash!

We can only take as many students as we have teachers for (we maintain ratio), so this service is available by reservation only. To reserve your spot, email Marney at marney@ec3kids.org. We’ll put you on the list and let you know how to proceed. First-come, first-served!

Scholastic Book Fair, December 1st to December 5th

Three times a year, EC3 hosts a Scholastic Book Fair to promote literacy and the joy of reading among our staff, children, and families. The next fair starts on Monday, December 1st. Proceeds from book fairs are used to purchase books and other program materials for EC3’s classrooms.

Books make amazing gifts. They are affordable, they provide hours of surprise, escape, and discovery, and as comedian and actress Amy Sedaris says, "Books make great gifts because they're easy to wrap!"

Scholastic Online Book Fair, November 27th to December 7th

Did you know that we run an online book fair in conjunction with the in-school book fair? Orders from the online fair ship directly to EC3 for free. You can shop hundreds of titles for all ages, including adults. Ordering from the online fair is a great way to get holiday shopping done without having to ever leave your house. Any orders placed during the online fair will arrive at EC3 in time for Christmas. http://bit.ly/11t234u

Board of Directors Update: November 2014

EC3’s Board of Directors convened on November 18th for its second meeting of the fiscal year. The first major topic of discussion was the “Board Challenge” fundraiser targeted toward EC3 alumni (not currently-enrolled families). This year’s challenge included two matching pledges of $5,000 each if we could raise an initial $5,000. As of the conclusion of the fundraiser (November 21st), over $6,000 had been collected, meaning that an additional $10,000 would be forthcoming. These donations support EC3’s general fund in order to keep tuition stable.

Another topic of discussion was upcoming changes in EC3’s music program, and the addition of paid-time-off benefits for full-time staff to pursue community service.

The complete minutes from November’s Board meeting, including committee reports, can be found on EC3’s website (http://ec3kids.org/board_docs). The Board meets monthly, on the third Tuesday, at 6:15 p.m. in EC3’s gym. These meetings are open to all, and those who are considering applying to serve on the Board are encouraged to attend at least one meeting as a visitor. A list of current Board members can be found here: http://ec3kids.org/board.

Small Business Saturday

First there was Black Friday, then Cyber Monday. Now we have Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday is the day we celebrate the “Shop Small” movement to drive shoppers to local merchants across the U.S. The Lansing area has many amazing locally-owned shops. The links below highlight many of the fantastic small businesses in the area.

If your child is a fan of Tim-the-Music-Man, you can put a CD of Tim’s EC3 favorites in his/her stocking for Christmas! Tim is taking orders, only $5 each. Send a message to Abby in the office (abby@ec3kids.org) to indicate how many you’d like, and bring in your cash; she’ll make sure you get your tunes!
