Lori Ireland’s 20th Anniversary Open House!

EC3 will host an open-house style 20th anniversary reception for Lori Ireland on Friday, October 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the EC3 gym. Mark your calendars to pay a visit to Lori at that time and congratulate her on 20 years of infant care. If you can’t make it in person, feel free to send a card or letter to her attention at EC3 and we will present them to her on that day. If you wish to contribute funds toward a monetary gift, please send them to executive director Elisabeth Weston or donate online (, listing “Lori” in the description field. We will provide a light lunch and cake.

EC3 Volunteer Opportunities – Saturday, October 11th

Next Saturday, October 11th, we will be tackling our next volunteer opportunity – painting the Ladybug room, and working outdoors for our annual fall yard work and cleanup. We need a group of volunteers to help with various stages of the jobs -- prep work, furniture moving, painting, and clean-up crews will all be needed inside. If painting isn’t your think, grab a rake and some lawn bags and help us outside! Work will start at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 3:00 p.m. Please come lend a hand at any point during that time, even if just for an hour! Please sign-up at – available slots range from one hour to all day and you can choose what you would like to help with.

We’re also happy to receive donations of gift cards to Home Depot for supplies, as well as donations for refreshments for the volunteers!

Mom’s Lunch Next Wednesday

On the second Wednesday of each month, EC3 hosts a “mom’s lunch” for any mom (alumni welcome) interested in getting to know other moms. Bring your lunch and come to EC3 at 12:15; there’s no “program,” just conversation and lots of laughs!

Field Trips

October is a month where many of the EC3 classrooms take a field trip to one of the area farms or pumpkin patches. You will be notified by the classroom teachers in advance of any field trip your child takes. When teachers plan transportation for field trips they will walk with the children, use public transportation, or ask parents to drive (State of Michigan licensing rules required that parents transport their own child or ask another parent to transport their child). Sometimes a parent may not be able to attend a driving field trip. In that case you can ask another classroom parent to transport your child. If you are not comfortable with your child going with another parent, they may stay at EC3 and spend time with another classroom in the program. For example, if you have a child in the Frog classroom who can’t attend a field trip, they would spend that time in the Tiger or Bluegill classrooms until their class returned. If you have any questions or concerns about an upcoming field trip, please inquire with your child’s teachers or in the office.

Flu Shot Clinic: Adults Only

For the past three years, EC3 has hosted a flu shot clinic to promote good health and provide a convenience to staff and parents. Once again we will host a flu shot clinic (administered by specialists from Physicians Health Plan) on Monday, October 20th, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. for interested staff and parents. We are unable to offer this service to children due to changes in what local providers are offering. PHP members can be billed directly. If you don’t have medical insurance coverage through PHP, the cost is $29 and can be paid in cash or billed to your EC3 tuition account. For those who have severe needle phobias, there will be a few doses of Flumist available. This does cost more (an additional $5/dose) as it is a more expensive vaccine, but PHP will cover the cost of this as well for those on their plan.

Halloween Parade: Friday, October 31st

Mark your calendars for EC3’s annual Halloween parade! It will take place on Friday, October 31st at 3:30 p.m. It is sure to be a fun event for everyone with all the children parading in their cutest costumes! There will be a staff costume contest and classroom celebrations as well. Check back here in the coming weeks for further details and check with your child’s teacher about each room’s specific celebration.

Bring Us Some Pumpkins!

We’d love to have some real jack-o-lanterns in the classrooms to make the place festive for Halloween! If you’re picking up one for your house this weekend, please consider donating an extra one to EC3.
