EC3 Closed on 8/30 and 9/2

EC3 will be closed on Friday, August 30, for a teacher in-service day. Teacher in-service day is a time for staff to participate in training, as well as an opportunity to get the classrooms cleaned and ready for transitions. We will also be closed on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Update on Fall Transitions

Although we are open all summer, EC3 feels a lot like a school as autumn approaches. We are preparing children for their next stage in life, whether it be kindergarten or a toddler classroom.

On Tuesday, 9/3, parents of currently-enrolled children will bring their kids to their “old” classrooms as usual; by the end of the week you will be bringing them to the “new” classrooms. The teachers and staff will be working with families to communicate the classroom-specific transition plans for each day of the week, but suffice it to say that after drop-off on Tuesday teachers will take children to their new classrooms for an extended visit. By the end of the week most will be napping in their new rooms and spending most of the day with new friends.

If yours is one of the several families whose child isn’t transitioning, you will still notice a refreshed look to the classroom and several new friends.

Coming Soon To Your Mailbox

According to State of Michigan licensing requirements, EC3 is required to update the Child Information Records (a.k.a emergency cards) for all its currently-enrolled children yearly. EC3 will be mailing a copy of the form right to your home mailbox – just fill it out and return to EC3. You may notice that the form has been updated and requires less information than in the past. Look for this mailing in the next few weeks.

Gym Floor Upkeep Scheduled

The gym floor will receive a quick polish and re-coat over the weekend. The gym will be emptied on in-service day (8/30) and polished over the holiday weekend; it will still be closed on Tuesday (9/3) but will be ready for action on Wednesday (9/4).

Family Survey Reminder

This past Monday, current and recent families should have received our annual parent survey via e-mail. Please take a few moments to complete the survey and help us fulfill our goal of continuously improving the program.

Creative Ways to Organize and Display Your Child’s Artwork

Showcasing your child’s artwork sends the message that you care, you are proud of their work and you are involved with what is happening at school. The big question is— when your child’s artwork starts overtaking the refrigerator, what do you do with it? One thing you can do is create a “zone” in your home for displaying artwork. It might be a wall in the house, a spot on the coffee table, or spots on a bookcase. Creating a “zone” will keep the clutter at bay and let your child know how proud you are of his or her creations! One really easy display method is to use a cable system; this allows you to easily change out artwork on a regular basis. For a more traditional look, create a frame wall. For something more hands-on, you can scan the artwork and upload to sites like Snapfish or Shutterfly and create a coffee table book. EC3 was a wonderful, nurturing place for my children to grow and learn. I was constantly impressed with the quality and variety of educational activities the Center provides for children. Daily interaction with other children and trusted adults has allowed them to develop social skills that far exceed what they could develop just at home. In addition, EC3 showed tremendous willingness to consider my children's individual development and characteristics in determining appropriate placements. Both my son and, later, my daughter loved EC3, and I wholeheartedly recommend EC3 to other parents as well.
