EC3 Closed Memorial Day

EC3 will be closed on Monday, May 25th, in observation of Memorial Day.

Summer Enrollment Changes

If you are planning to change your child’s enrollment for the summer, now is the time to let the office know. A two week written notice or e-mail message is required for withdrawal and/or changes in schedule.

Mark Your Calendar: Bear & Bluegill Graduation

It’s just about that time to “graduate” the children in the Bear room, and several in the Bluegill room. Families are welcome to attend the 2015 graduation ceremony on Friday, June 19th, at 5:15 p.m. at EC3. Details were recently e-mailed to graduating families. Contact Marney Turner (marney@ec3kids.org) with questions.

EC3’s Infant Program Capacity

In recent weeks, we’ve reported that EC3’s infant program is currently full and booked for the better part of a year. This is not a new scenario; baby booms come and go, and most center-based programs experience periods where they’re either really full or really empty (like EC3’s was in 2011 and 2012). Several times in EC3’s history, when we’ve been unable to accommodate all the demand for infants, the question has come up: why don’t we open another infant room?

EC3’s Board of Directors has explored this option at great length in the past and determined it would not be feasible. Infant rooms require direct egress to the outside for emergency purposes, so the first thing we would need is another classroom with an exit door—which we don’t have. If we were to embark upon the construction required to make such an exit, we would have to undergo a rigorous licensing and permitting process that might include the temporary closing of several other rooms for an unspecified amount of time. Suddenly, a seemingly small undertaking becomes an untenable project!

We continue to work with our existing families as they grow, and we appreciate the continued interest in and support of EC3’s great program!

Be a Tourist in Your Own Town, May 30th

The annual Be a Tourist in Your Own Town is scheduled for May 30th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For only $1.00 you can purchase a "Be A Tourist Passport" which grants you FREE admission to more than 70 area attractions, local businesses, and special activities. Special highlight for EC3 families: children under 3 do not require a passport! For details and maps, go to www.lansing.org/events/batyot/.

Lansing Area Swim & Splash Locations

Looking for a place to take a cool dip on a hot summer day? We compiled a list of nine area lakes, pools and splash pads that are perfect places for families to spend an afternoon. Have a favorite that we missed? Let us know and we can add it to the list! http://ec3kids.org/uploads/file/ParentResources/LansingAreaOutdoorSwimLocations.pdf

Hearing Screening on Tuesday & Wednesday

EC3 preschoolers (Frogs, Tigers, Bluegills, and Bears) will have their hearing tested May 26th and May 27th by the Ingham County Health Department. This is not a diagnostic exam; rather, it is a screening to find those children who show signs of hearing problems that should be tested further. Parents need not be present or complete any forms, but if you have questions please contact the office.

New Support Staff at EC3

EC3 is staffed by early childhood professionals who are committed to creating a positive environment for young children. EC3 also boasts support staff who have training in child development and are filled with a love of children. The support staff are very familiar faces to every EC3 child, and smoothly transition into the classrooms when primary caregivers are away from the classroom. We have a few new friendly faces in the classrooms. Please welcome support-staffers Maggie Hinckley, Samantha Jean, Ilham Sarhan, Nicole Springstead, Mercedes Steward, Emma VanHevele and Emilee Zimmerman. Please feel free to introduce yourself and welcome them to our EC3 family.

Summer Camp Starts in Two Weeks!

Summer camp is filling up! If your child wants to have the most fun possible this summer while still retaining (or increasing) what he/she learned during the school year, you’d better get him/her signed up before there are no spaces left! You can read more about it and download the schedule and registration form on EC3’s website: http://ec3kids.org/camp.

My daughter has grown both socially and academically. She has been able to do the alphabet and count to twenty since 18 months. She routinely sings songs she learns at school and communicates incredibly well.
