Laura Geist


Laura Geist serves as the manager for the Grants Administration Section for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). In this role, she oversees the execution of outgoing grant agreements to local government, nonprofit agencies, and other partners throughout the state providing opportunities, services, and programs that promote a healthy, safe, and stable environment for Michigan residents.

Prior to joining MDHHS, Laura served in management roles at the YWCAs of both Kalamazoo and Greater Flint, providing administrative and operational support and programmatic direction for racial justice initiatives and domestic and sexual violence prevention and intervention services. She has over a decade of experience in grants administration and management, and nonprofit program development experience.

Laura holds a B.A. in Sociology and Technical Writing from Western Michigan University, and an M.B.A. in Nonprofit Management from Cleary University.

Laura lives in Lansing with her husband, Jason, and daughter, Ally (who attends EC3). She is an active community organizer and a member of Sistrum, Lansing Women’s Chorus, where she is currently vice president of the board.

It is tremendously comforting that I know that they know more about child development than I do and want to share that information for the benefit of my child.
